Arteries of the pelvis and lower limb Flashcards
Common iliac artery
branches from the descending aorta and supplies arteries of the right and left lower limbs
internal iliac artery
branches from the common iliac artery and supplies the pelvis, the gluteal muscles, and the adductor muscles
external iliac
branches from the common iliac artery and supplies the lower limb and the anterior abdominal wall
obturator artery
branches from the internal iliac artery and supplies the adductor muscles of the medial thigh
deep artery of the thigh
branches from the femoral artery and supplies the thigh muscles (hamstrings, quadriceps, and adductors)
medial/lateral circumflex artery
branch from the proximal femoral artery and supply the head and neck of the femur and the hamstring muscles
femoral artery
branches from the external iliac artery and branches to supply the lower limb
popliteal artery
branches from the femoral artery and supplies the anterior and posterior tibial arteries
anterior tibial artery
branches from the popliteal artery and supplies the extensor muscles and the dorsalis pedis artery
fibular artery
branches from the posterior tibial artery and supplies the lateral calf and fibular muscles
dorsal pedis artery
branches from the anterior tibial artery and supplies the dorsum of the foot and the arcuate artery
arcuate artery
branches from the dorsalis pedis and issues the dorsal metatarsal arteries to the metatarsus of the foot
dorsal metatarsal artery
branches from the arcuate artery and supplies the metatarsus of the foot
lateral/medial plantar artery
branches from the fibular artery and supplies the plantar surface of the foot
plantar arch
originates from the lateral/medial plantar arteries and supplies the plantar surface of the metatarsals
