Left common carotid artery
branches from the aortic arch, supply the L. external and internal carotid arteries
right common carotid artery
branches from the brachiocephalic trunk, supply the R. external and internal carotid arteries
Branches of the external carotid arteries
superficial temporal artery (temples), maxillary artery (cheek), occipital artery (back of head), facial artery (jaw), lingual artery (below chin)
vertebral arteries
branches from the subclavian arteries to supply the cerebellum and posterior cerebral hemispheres; pass through the foramina of the cervical vertebrae to enter the skull through the foramen magnum
internal carotid arteries
branches from the common carotid to supply the brain and ophthalmic arteries
ophthalmic artery
branches from the internal carotid and supplies orbital structures
superficial temporal artery
branches from the external carotid artery and supplies the face and scalp
maxillary artery
branches from the external carotid and supplies deep structures of the face (mandible, pterygoid, infratemporal fossa)
facial artery
branches from the external carotid and supplies the palatine tonsils, soft palate, pterygoid
occipital artery
branches from the external carotid and supplies the posterior side of the scalp
