Aromatherapy Flashcards

1
Q

3 ways of essential oil extraction;

A
  1. expression: liquid matter is squeezed out then carefully filtered (only citrus peels)
  2. distillation (most common) heating organic material until its aromatic oils evaporate, then capturing and cooling the fragrant gas until it condensed back to a liquid
  3. solvent extraction: petals are submerged in oil/fat and gently heated, a solvent is then added to soak up the essential oil and then it is dissolved leaving just the essential oil
