Arm & Elbow Flashcards
What is the brachial plexus?
It is the nerves from C5 to T1. It controls the shoulder and arm. Has 5 nerve roots that communicate and give off branches to the scapular and shoulder muscles. Has 5 terminal branches.
What is the radial nerve?
The nerve that passes along the posterior side of the arm and inner cares the extensors of the arm.
What is the musculocutaneous nerve?
It is the short nerve that is in the deep portion of the anterior arm and innervates the elbow flexors.
What is the Median nerve?
It is the nerve that runs along the entire length of the arm in the middle innervating the pronators, flexors, and intrinsic muscle of the hand.
What is the ulnar nerve?
The nerve that runs along the length of the arm medially and innervates the flexors and intrinsic muscles of the hand.
What is the Axillary sheath?
It is the sheath that surrounds the nerves and blood vessels that enter the arm.
What are the primary arteries of the arm?
Subclavian artery Axillary atery Brachial artery Radial artery Ulnar artery
What are the three bones of the arm?
Humerus
Radial
Ulna
What features are located at the elbow?
Capitulum Trochlea Coranoid fossa Coranoid process Olecranon process Olecranon fossa Medial & lateral epicondyles
What degrees is the carrying angle at?
5-15 degrees
What are the ligaments of the elbow?
Radial or lateral collateral ligaments
Ulnar or medial collateral ligaments
Annular ligament
Where does the head of the radius sit?
Annular ligament
Radial notch of the ulna
What kind of joint is the elbow
Synovial
What bones articulate in elbow motion?
Humerus and ulna
Humerus and radius
What is the range of motion of the elbow?
0 degrees at extension, 150 degrees at flexion.
