Block the ADH receptor in the collecting duct
What is the effect of using a Vaptan?
Excretion of free water
What are the two main clinical uses of a Vaptan?
Hypervolemia or hyponatremia in hospitalized patients who are very sick and not responding to fluid treatment.
What are we worried about or very careful about when treating hyponatremia?
Not correcting it too fast because it can lead to ODS.
Tolvaptan is a selective antagonist for which receptor and what route is it administered?
Selective V2 receptor antagonist. Orally
What is the protocol with Tolvaptan and why?
Must use less than 30 days for hyponatremia or it can cause serious issues to the liver.
What disease is Tolvaptan indicated for?
To slow progression of adult polycystic kidney disease
