April 5 Flashcards
Cilostatin
Administered with carbapenems to increase efficacy
Paclitaxel
Chemotherapeutic that hyperstabilizes polymerized microtubules, preventing metaphase to anaphase progression
Tetracycline MOA
Binds 30s ribosome and blocks attachment of aminoacyl tRNA
Aminoglycoside MOA
Binds 30s ribosome and causes misreading of genetic code
Erythromycin MOA and MOR
binds 23s rRNA site on 50s ribosome and inhibits chain translocation
Resistance by methylation of 23s rRNA
Clindamycin MOA
Binds 23s rRNA site on 50s ribosome (same as erythromycin)
Demeclacycline
tetracycline used in SIADH, not as antibiotic, as is an ADH antagonist
Chloramphenicol MOA and use
Inhibits peptidyl transferase. Safe in first and second trimester when many other antibiotics aren’t. Use in 3rd tri can cause grey baby syndrome
coproantigen
found in stool in those with giardiasis
Mittelschmerz
unilateral abdomianl pain when mature follicle ruptures mid cycle
RAAS effect on renal vascular smooth muscle
Ang II binds its Gq coupled receptor on efferent causing constriction.
Intercalated discs
Found in cardiac muscle only. Contain gap junctions that allow for communication between cardiac myocytes
Tumors associated with psammoma bodies
Meningioma (arises from arachnoid cells)
Papillary thyroid cancer
Serous ovarian tumors
Mesothelioma
Chemical antagonist
Binds directlyt o agonist to prevent it from binding receptor. Example: chelators
Arachnoid granulations
Resorb CSF. Found in superior sagittal sinus
