language used by the people of a specific area, class, district or other group of people; involves spelling, sounds, grammar, and pronunciation used by a particular group and distinguishes them from another
Dialect
extreme pride and arrogance shown by a character that ultimately brings about their downfall; give a moral lesson to audience and readers so they are motivated to remove flaws that can cause tragedy
Hubris
literary device used by writers for a prominent character that has characteristics opposite to that of a conventional hero; typically clumsy, unsolicited, and unskilled and has both good and bad qualities
Anti-Hero
persuasive technique and type of propaganda through which a writer persuades his readers, so that majority could agree with the argument of the writer; to follow what others are doing
Band Wagon
purpose is to make the audience think and act in a way that majority follows; tendency of following beliefs and actions occurs when audience sees others are also conforming
Band Wagon (function)
primary function is to persuade readers and mold their perceptions about a particular cause
Propaganda
appeals to a person’s imagination of something we like to trust ex. “Make America Great Again”
Propaganda-transfer
VIRTUE WORDS or GLITTERING GENERALITY; words used to dupe us into accepting and approving of things without examining evidence carefully ex. “Natural”, “organic”, “ecological”
Propaganda-glittering generalities
when some respected celebrity (or generally hated) claims a product is good (bad)
Propaganda-testimonial
used by a speaker to convince an audience that an idea is good because they are the same ideas of the vast majority of people like themselves; very similar to bandwagon
