Concession prt. 2
literary device in which two or more words are joined together to coin a new word
Pormanteau (port-man-tow)
involves linking and blending of two or more words and the new word formed shares the same meanings as the original words; different from compound word in that it can have different meaning from coined words ex. education + entertainment = edutainment; medical + care = Medicare
Coinage of Pormanteau
actor’s speech, directed to the audience, that is not supposed to be heard by other actors on stage; used to let audience know what a character is thinking or about to do

repetition of vowel sounds within a line of poetry
Assonance
particular group of readers or viewers the writer is addressing; writer considers audience when deciding on subject, purpose for writing and tone and style in which to write
Audience
reason for creating a particular work; can be to entertain, explain, inform, express an opinion or to persuade

poem that tells a story and is meant to be sung or recited
Ballad
techniques that writers use to create viable characters; character trait- personality no description; direct characterization, indirect characterization, dynamic character, round character, static character
