Litotes
denotes an illusionary place that projects the notion of a perfect society to the reader
Utopia
has 14 lines and is written in iambic pentameter; has 10 syllables in each line; has a specific rhyme scheme and specific turn
Sonnet
character that has a complex personality; character with whom the audience can sympathize, associate, or relate to
Round Character
literary device that occurs when incongruity appears between expectations and what actually happens
Situational Irony
one that does not undergo inner changes or undergoes a little change; does not develop or grow ex. Sherlock Holmes and James Bond
Static Character
literary genre that uses daily used language in writing and speaking; refers to writing or speaking of the public
Vernacular
vernacular: use of ordinary, everyday and plain language in speaking or writing ex. corn- common plant name; dialect: related to particular region, geographical area, social class, occupational group; uses distinguished pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar

figure of speech employed to intentionally make a situation seem less important than it really is
Understatement
literary device that is a laudatory expression in a speech, or written tribute to a person deceased recently
