- shorter duration of time
- take shorter time to excrete
- low risk of prolong sedation
- for acute conditions
- elderly: preferably

long acting
- half life : more than 24 hours
- moderate onset
- longer duration of time
- take longer to excrete
- higher risk of sedation

works same as BZD but binds to a slightly different site on GABA receptor to effective for sleep

17
Q

what is moa of buspirone ?

A

increased serotonin level to decrease anxiety

18
Q

what is example of drugs of BZD ?

- lorazepam
- temazepam

long acting
- diazepam
- clonazepam
- chlordiazepoxide

A
  • falls
  • sedation
  • cognitive impairment
  • dependence
21
Q

what is the risk factor of Z drugs?

A
