What should you keep in mind for HIV treatmetn?
A
- Requires multiple drugs
- But often given in a single tablet
- Need to look up each individual component

What types of antifungals can you prescribe?
A
- Amphotericin B
- Lozenge
- Binds to sterol on membrane making it leaky
- Nystatin
- Same action and amphotericin B
Miconazole
-2% topical gel
-Some of this is absorbed so can cause adverse reactions (rash, headache, nausea, dizziness, vomitting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, elevated liver enzymes)
-Drug interactions rarely occur, but bear in mind can interfere with CYP enzymes and affect drugs metabolised by liver
Dosage:
Adult, child >2 years, oral, half a spoonful (2.5 mL) using the measure provided 4 times daily (for 7–14 days for treatment).
Birth (at term) – 2 years, oral, quarter of a spoonful (1.25 mL) using the measure provided 4 times daily (for 7–14 days for treatment).
