What groups do you do ab prophylaxis for?

A
  • Prosthetic heart valve or prosthetic material used for valve repair
  • Previous infective endocarditis
  • Congenital heart disease involving:
  • Unrepaired cyanotic defects (blood not getting oxygenated properly through heart) including palliative shunts and conduits
  • Completely repaired defects with prosthetic materials up to 6 months after procedure
  • Repaired defect at or adjacent to a site that prevents endothelialisation (covering of prosthetic with endothelial cells)

-Rheumatic heart disease in high risk patients (Indigenous + low socieconomic status non-Indigenous)

  • Amoxicillin 2g (50mg/kg child) 1 hr before (oral)

- Clindamycin 600mg (child 15mg/kg) 1 hr before (oral)
