What groups do you do ab prophylaxis for?
A
- Prosthetic heart valve or prosthetic material used for valve repair
- Previous infective endocarditis
- Congenital heart disease involving:
- Unrepaired cyanotic defects (blood not getting oxygenated properly through heart) including palliative shunts and conduits
- Completely repaired defects with prosthetic materials up to 6 months after procedure
- Repaired defect at or adjacent to a site that prevents endothelialisation (covering of prosthetic with endothelial cells)
-Rheumatic heart disease in high risk patients (Indigenous + low socieconomic status non-Indigenous)

Q
What antibiotics are used?
A
- Amoxicillin 2g (50mg/kg child) 1 hr before (oral)
- Clindamycin 600mg (child 15mg/kg) 1 hr before (oral)
