Give HMG-CoA Reductase inhibitors
- ATORVASTATIN
- PRAVASTATIN
- SIMVASTATIN
The first line drug therapy for hypercholesterolemia
HMG-COA REDUCTASE INHIBITORS
Give Bile Acid Sequestrants
- Cholestyramine
- Colestipol
- Colesevelam
Prevent reabsorption of bile acids from small intestine
BILE ACID SEQUESTRANTS
Also known as fibrates
FIBRIC ACID DERIVATIVES
Increases activity of lipase which breaks down lipids. Reduces the metabolism or catabolism of cholesterol and triglycerides
NIACIN
Samples of Fibric Acid Derivatives
- Fenofibrate
- Gemfibrozil
Believed to work by activating lipase, which breaks down cholesterol. Also suppress the release of fatty acid from adipose tissue

For the treatment of hyperlipidemias

Inhibits absorption of cholesterol and related sterols from the small intestine
