ANTIHYPERTENSIVES Flashcards
ADRs of CCBs
hypotension, palpitations, peripheral oedema, flushing
(dont use in HF patients)
bradycardia, heart block
ADRs of BBs
hypotension, bradycardia, wheeze/bronchospasm, impotence
ADRs of ACEis
hypotension, dry cough, hyperkalaemia, renal impairment/AKI
What electrolyte abnormalities are seen with ACE-is?
Hyperkalaemia Hyponatraemia (lack of aldosterone, no Na+ retention)
Avoid which two combinations of antihypertensives?
CCBs + BBs
Interactions of ACEis
Avoid with NSAIDs - worsens renal function/nephrotoxic
K+ elevating drugs - risk of hyperkalaemia
Administration instructions of ACEis
Take in evening/PM as risk of postural hypotension
ACEis monitoring
Check electrolytes (K+) and renal function (U/Es and creatinine) before Rx and after dose change
Titrated up to therapeutic level
ACEis and pregnancy
teratogenic = AVOID!!
Contraindications of BBs
Avoid in asthmatics (bronchospasm + wheeze)
