What accounts for 60- 80% total antimicrobial production and why?
Non therapeutic agricultural use because when one animal is sick, they treat the whole herd
Why is there such high resistance against fluroquinolone?
It was licensed for poultry and livestock in 1990 so was put into feeds
What are the consequences of inappropriate prescribing?
High opportunity for adverse effects of antibiotics.
Need to use shortest course and narrowest spectrum
How do we improve the prescribing of antibiotics?

Why co-trimoxazole and chloramphenicol not used any more?
Bone marrow toxicity and are very expensive
What are new drugs based on?
On copies of previous drugs and so there are no new mechanisms, not novel drugs
