Anterior Triangle Flashcards
What structure divides the triangles of neck?
SCM
Describe the boundaries of the anterior triangle
Anterior - imaginary line
Posterior - ant border ACM
Base - mandible
Describe the divisions of the anterior triangle
Submental
- Lymph nodes, beginning of anterior jugular vein
Submandibular
- Facial artery/vein
- Carotid sheath, hypoglossal nerve
- salivary gland, lymph nodes
Carotid
- Carotid sheath, branches of external carotid, internal jugular vein, hypoglossal, accessory and vagus nerves
Muscular
- Sternohyoid, sternothyroid
Which superficial vein of neck is found in posterior triangle?
Both
External jugular = anterior to SCM
Internal jugular = posterior to SCM
Which vein is positioned anterior to SCM?
External jugular
Internal jugular posterior to SCM
Describe anterior jugular
Can be absent
sits in midline
can drain to either internal/external jugular
What fibres does ansa cervicalis contain?
C1-3
List the infra hyoid muscles and their innervations
superficial = omohyoid and sternohyoid
deep = sternothyroid and thyrohyoid
Innervation = Ansa cervicali
EXCEPT thyrohyoid = C1 via hypoglossal CN XIII
Name the branches of the ECA
Superior thyroid
lingual
facial
Where is the thyroid gland found?
From lamina of thyroid cartilage to 6th tracheal ring
Describe the arterial supply and venous drainage of thyroid gland
2x superior thyroid artery
2x inferior thyroid (branch of thyrocervical trunk)
Venous
superior thyroid vein > internal jugular
Middle thyroid vein > internal jugular
Inferior thyroid vein > left brachiocephalic
How does submandibular salivary gland pass saliva to mouth?
via duct between first and second lower incisor
Describe thoracic duct
deep in anterior triangle
junction of internal jugular and subclavian
