Longus capitis
hyoid muscle layer in anterior cervical muscles
Suprahyoid
infrahyoid
superficial cervical anterior muscle layer
sternocleidomastoid
Platysma
hyoid muscles
steady or move the hyoid and larynx
suprahyoid
muscles superior to the hyoid
connects hyoid to cranium
Mylohyoid, Geniohyoid, stylohyoid, Digastric muscles
infrahyoid
muscles inferior to the hyoid
connects hyoid to sternum, clavicle and scapula
superficial plane - sternohyoid and omohyoid
Deep plane - sternothyroid and thyrohyoid
omohyoid
has two bellies that are united by an intermediate tendon, which is connected to the clavicle by a fascial sling
Important landmark in the neck because it divides the anterior and posterior triangles into smaller triangles
digastric muscles
Has two bellies that descend to the hyoid bone
they are joined by an intermediate tendon that is connected to the body in the greater horn of the hyoid bone by a strong loop, or sling of fibrous connective tissue
This fibrous pulley allows the intermediate tendon to slide anteriorly and posteriorly
superior attachment for the digastric muscle
Anterior belly- Digastric fossa of mandible
posterior belly- mastoid notch of temporal bone
inferior attachment for the digastric muscle
Intermediate tendon to body and greater horn of hyoid bone
Innervation of Digastric muscle
anterior belly- mylohyoid nerve branch of inferior alveolar nerve
Posterior belly - facial nerve cranial nerve VII
action of Digastric muscle
Depresses mandible and raises hyoid bone
Stylohyoid muscle superior attachment
Styloid process of the temporal bone
Stylohyoid muscle inferior attachment
Body of the hyoid bone
