Anterior Neck Muscles Flashcards
Origin: TVP of C3-C6 (anterior tubercles)
Insertion: Scalene tubercle on the inner surface of the first rib
Action: Flexes and laterally rotates the neck at spinal joints
Reverse Action: Elevates the first rib at sternocostal and costospinal joints
Anterior Scalene Muscle
Origin: transverse process of C2 - C7 (posterior tubercles)
Insertion: Superior surface of the first rib
Action: flexes and laterally rotates the neck at the spinal joints
Reverse action: elevates the first rib at the sternocostal and costospinal joints
Middle Scalene
What muscle’s external head originates from the anterior Superior surface of the manubrium, and the clavicular head originates from the medial one third of clavicle?
SCM (sternocleidomastoid)
What are the actions for sternocleidomastoid?
Flexes lower neck at the spinal joints, extends upper neck and head at spinal joints, laterally flexes and contralaterally rotates head and neck at spinal joints
Which muscle inserts onto the mastoid process of the temporal bone and lateral half of the superior nuchal line of the occipital bone?
A. Longus Colli
B. Sternocleidomastoid
C. Posterior Scalene
B. Sternocleidomastoid
Origin: TVP of C6 and C7 (posterior tubercles)
Insertion: External surface of 2nd rib
Standard action: Laterally flexes neck and spinal joints
Reverse action: Elevates the second rib at the sternocostal and Costospinal joints
Posterior Scalene
Origin: Anterior bodies of C5 - T3, TVP of c3 to c5
Insertion: Tubercle on anterior arch of the atlas, bodies of C2 - C4, TVP of c5 and c6
Action: Flexes head and neck and spinal joints
Longus Colli
