antenatal testing Flashcards
why do we preform antenatal testign
for high risk pregnancy or for decreased fetal movements. this is to assess fetal well being
what is first test for antenatal testing?
non stress test
what does the NST look for?
fetal heart rate variability and accelerations
what is a reassuring NST
accelerations and variability are present
accelerations: if >32wks (15X15; 2/20min) if <32wks (10X10; 2/20)
what if fail NST?
then repeat NST with vibroacustic stimulation…if pass then reassured
what if fail NST with VAS
then perform Biophysical profile
what is the BPP
assess baby using further criteria 1) NST 2) AFI 3) breathing 4) movement 5) tone 0-10 score
what are the interpretations of the BPP scores?
0-2 fetal demise imminent –need C-section
3-7 need to weigh pro and cons of delivery vs leaving in
8-10 reassuring, leave baby alone.
what is an AFI, what is normal and what is abormal
amniotic fluid index. >5 is normal; 8-25 is reassuring.
what if AFI is <5
possible ROM, or oligohydramnios. indicative of kidney issues.
what if AFI >25
indicative of gastrointestinal issues with baby
what is a CST?
contraction stress test. looks at baby HR during adequate contractions
there should not be any bradycardia or decelerations.
if there are late decels or bradycardia then fetal demise is imminent –C-section
