Nitrates

A

MOA - dilate blood vessels (arterial dilation causes redistribution of blood and oxygen)
(Venous dilation reduces venous return and ventricular end diastolic volume)

Therapeutic - treat stable, unstable and vasospatic angina

Adverse effects - headaches, tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension

Drug- nitroglycerin, ending -trate

Calcium Channel Blockers

A

MOA- blocks calcium preventing muscle contraction and promotes relaxation

Therapeutic- Angina and hypertension

Adverse effects- peripheral edema, bradycardia, hypotension, atrioventricular block, dizziness, fatigue hypo/hyperglycaemia

Drug - ends in -ines

Beta blockers

A

MOA - block beta receptors to slow the heart

Therapeutic- Angina, hypertension, HF

Adverse effects - bradycardia, fatigue, weakness

Drug - end in -olol, diltiazem, verapamil
