Angina Flashcards
Nitrates
MOA - dilate blood vessels (arterial dilation causes redistribution of blood and oxygen)
(Venous dilation reduces venous return and ventricular end diastolic volume)
Therapeutic - treat stable, unstable and vasospatic angina
Adverse effects - headaches, tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension
Drug- nitroglycerin, ending -trate
Calcium Channel Blockers
MOA- blocks calcium preventing muscle contraction and promotes relaxation
Therapeutic- Angina and hypertension
Adverse effects- peripheral edema, bradycardia, hypotension, atrioventricular block, dizziness, fatigue hypo/hyperglycaemia
Drug - ends in -ines
Beta blockers
MOA - block beta receptors to slow the heart
Therapeutic- Angina, hypertension, HF
Adverse effects - bradycardia, fatigue, weakness
Drug - end in -olol, diltiazem, verapamil
