What are the 2 parts of the oral cavity called?
Oral vestibule, oral cavity proper
Where is the oral cavity proper?
lies inside gums and teeth when mouth is shut
Where is the oral vestibule?
area between lips, cheek, alveolar process, gums and teeth
What are the lips?
Two muscular folds
What are the lips made up of?
Fibroelastic connective tissue and skeletal muscle
What do the lips do?
act as a valve for movement of air for functions in respiratory system and manipulate sound for speech

What are papillaes?
little bumps on tongue
What are the 4 papillae types?
Filiform, fungiform, foliate and vallate

fungiform, foliate and vallate
What cranial nerves are involved with tongue?
vagus, glossopharyngeal, trigeminal, facial, hypoglossal
What are the three major salivary glands called?
parotid glands, submandibular glands, sublingual glands

under mandible on medial side
