Anatomy of Pelvic Wall Flashcards
What are the bones of the lateral pelvic wall?
Pubis, ilium, ischium
What are the ligaments of the lateral pelvic wall?
Obturator membrane, sacrospinous ligament, sacrotuberous ligament
What are the muscles of the lateral pelvic wall?
Tendinous arch of levator ani, levator ani, obturator internus, coccygeus, piriformis
Where do the majority of arteries of the pelvis an peritoneum arise from?
Internal iliac arteries
What are some arteries of the pelvis/peritoneum that don’t arise from the internal iliac arteries?
Gonadal artery = L2 abdominal aorta
Superior rectal arteries = continuation of IMA
What are some arterial anastomoses that exist in females in the pelvis?
One between the uterine artery and ovarian artery
One between the uterine artery and vaginal artery
Where do the veins of the pelvis/perineum mainly drain to?
The internal iliac vein
What are some other vessels that the veins of the pelvis/perineum can drain to?
Via superior rectal vein into hepatic portal system
Via lateral sacral veins into internal vertebral venous plexus
What are the nerves present in the lateral pelvic wall?
Obturator nerve, sciatic nerve, pudendal nerve, sacral plexus, pelvic splanchnic nerve, nerve to levator ani
What is the lymphatic drainage of the superior pelvic viscera?
External iliac nodes - common iliac nodes - aortic nodes - thoracic duct - venous system
What is the lymphatic drainage of the inferior pelvic viscera?
Deep perineum - internal iliac nodes - common iliac nodes - aortic nodes - thoracic duct - venous system
Where does lymph from the superficial perineum drain to?
Superficial inguinal nodes
What does the large degree of crossover that exist in the lymphatic drainage of the pelvis mean?
Cancer can spread in any direction
Where does gonadal lymph drain to?
Lumbar nodes
What does trans-peritoneal spread mean?
Disease can penetrate through peritoneal layer and disseminate into the peritoneal cavity
