Anatomy 17 Flashcards
What is the lateral ventricle?
A Y-shaped cavity in the cerebral hemisphere
What is the lateral ventricle divided into:
1) A central part (body)
2) 3 horns
Where does the central part of the lateral ventricle extend from and to?
From the interventricular foramen to the splenium of corpus callosum
What are the 3 horns of the lateral ventricle?
1) Anterior horn
2) Posterior horn
3) Inferior horn
Where does the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle lie?
In the frontal lobe in front of the interventricular foramen
Where does the posterior horn of the lateral ventricle lie?
In the occipital lobe
Where does the inferior horn of the lateral ventricle lie?
In the temporal lobe
The lateral ventricle is connected to the __ by __.
3rd ventricle; interventricular foramen (of Monro)
What is the Trigone (atrium)?
The part of the body at the
junction of inferior and posterior horns
What does the Trigone (atrium) contain?
The glomus (choroid plexus tuft) calcified in adult (x ray & CT).
What is found on the roof of the body of the lateral ventricle?
Body of the Corpus callosum
What is found on the floor of the body of the lateral ventricle?
1) Body of Caudate Nucleus
2) Body of the thalamus
3) Stria terminalis between thalamus and caudate.
What does Stria terminales connect?
Amygdala and ventral nucleus of the hypothalmus
What is found on the medial wall of the body of the lateral ventricle?
1) Septum Pellucidum
2) Body of the fornix (choroid fissure between fornix and thalamus (choroid plexus))
What is found on the roof of the anterior horn of the lateral ventricle?
Genu of the Corpus callosum
