ANATOMICAL TERMS
Medial = nearer the midline= the heart is midline to the humorous
Lateral = further from midline or side of the body = humerus lateral to the heart
Proximal = nearer to the point of attachment of a limb = femur is proximal to the fibula.
Distal = further from the point of attachment from the limb, the fibula is distal to the femur.
Anterior or ventral = nearer to the front of the body = sternum is anterior to the vertebrae
Posterior or dorsal = nearer the back of the body = vertebrae is posterior to the sternum
Superior = nearer the head
inferior = further from the head
BODY PLANES
MEDIAN PLANE = when the body is divided longitudinally through the midline into the right and left half
FRONTAL PLANE = divides the body into anterior and posterior
TRANSVERSE PLANE = Horizontal sections = cross-section diving into body parts into upper & lower parts
