Decreased MCV, MCH and MCHC
Serum ferratin <80micrograms/l

Poor diet Previous menorrhagia Recent previous pregnancies Multiple pregnancy Excessive blood loss at delivery

Folate deficiency
A
MCV >100fl
MCV may rise in normal pregnancy
Confirm diagnosis by serum and red cell folate levels
