Q
Amylin mimetics
A
pramlintide (Symlin)
2
Q
Therapeutic Uses
pramlintide (Symlin)
A
Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
3
Q
Mechanism of Action
pramlintide (Symlin)

stomach emptying, inhibiting the release of glucagon after meals, and by reducing appetite

Q
Adverse Effects
pramlintide (Symlin)
A
Hypoglycemia, nausea (20 – 40%), loss of appetite (9 – 17%). Insulin doses should be reduced by 50% when starting pramlintide to avoid hypoglycemia. Injection site reactions

Taken subcutaneously (SQ)
