What is an amide?

A

A derivative of Carboxylic acids where the hydroxyl group has been replaced with ammonia/amine.
Primary- N bonded to 1 carbon, secondary- N bonded to, tertiary

How are amides made?

A

Reacting acyl chlorides with ammonia/amine (more detail in acyl chloride deck)
Or using acid anhydrides.
Both produce HCl
