Amides Flashcards
1
Q
What is an amide?
A
A derivative of Carboxylic acids where the hydroxyl group has been replaced with ammonia/amine.
Primary- N bonded to 1 carbon, secondary- N bonded to, tertiary
2
Q
How are amides made?
A
Reacting acyl chlorides with ammonia/amine (more detail in acyl chloride deck)
Or using acid anhydrides.
Both produce HCl
3
Q
What do polyamides contain?
A
An amide link (in condensation polymers deck)
