Stimulus overload - cities are busy, can’t pay attention to everything. Diversity - more likely to help similar others, cities have more diversity. Diffusion of responsibility - more people around, more likely to happen

Lower class tend to be more empathic and better able to judge emotions. Giver higher % to charity on average and are more helpful due to having fewer resources and stronger relationships

Construe situation as cooperative, may act more cooperatively. Construe situation as competitive - may act more competitively

Hard to understand why we help as helping others is costly. Goes against natural selection

Kin selection and reciprocity
What is kin selection?
Tendency for natural selection to favour behaviours which increase chances of survival of genetic relatives. More likely to help those with same genes
Define reciprocal altruism
Tendency to help others with expectation that they are likely to help back in the future

Situation construal, partner construal, culture
Summarise the prisoner’s dilemma game
2 men arrested for committing crime. Decide whether to stick to story and avoid admitting to crime or sell out friend for lighter personal sentence. Quiet = short sentence, confess = medium sentence, 1 confesses = 1 goes free, other has long sentence. Decision making under uncertainty.
