Altering Blood Calcium Levels In the Body Flashcards
When there is too little concentration of calcium levels in the blood ..
The Parathyroid Hormone:
1)increases the rate of intestinal absorption of calcium
2) Decreases the process that kidneys contain calcium ions(calcium)
3)Osteoclasts stimulates the increased release of calcium in the bones.
When there is too much calcium concentration in our blood:
1)The Parathyroid Hormone decreases the rate of intestinal absorption of calcium
2) Calcitonin -causes kidneys to lose calcium
3) Calcitonin inhibits osteoclasts, while osteoblasts to continue to lock calcium ions in bone matrix. Osteoblasts are stimulated to lay down more bone as they pull calcium out of the blood stream to lay down more bone.
