Sliding Filament Theory Flashcards

1
Q

Thin filaments slide past the thick filaments. The thick filaments stay stationary. This continues until thick and thin filaments overlap completely.

The thick filament which are the cross bridges on the myosin proteins, grab hold of the thin filaments and pull them forward after an open site is activated for that calcium site to grab on to.

Sliding Theory occurs during muscle cell contraction. When a muscle cell contracts and shortens. The distance between z-line decreases. I-bands shorten. A-bands move closer together but remain the same length. An open site is activated for calcium to grab on to.
