Airworthiness Requirements Flashcards
What is a principle structural element (PSE)?
A part of the aircraft that contributes significantly to carrying flight, ground or cabin pressurisation loads and is critical to maintaining aircraft’s structural integrity
What are some examples of PSE’s?
-wings
-horizontal stabiliser
-vertical stabiliser
-canard
-forward wing
-winglets/tip fins
How are flight loads used?
Used with safety allowance to create strength requirements
What are the two types of flight loads considered and what are they?
Flight limit loads (maximum loads expected in flight)
Ultimate limit loads (Flight limit loads multiplied by a factor of safety)
What are the 5 acting stresses?
-tension
-compression
-torsion
-shear
-bending
