What must the operator check before each flight?
Aircraft is Airworthy
All Airworhty Directives have been complied with
All inspections have been completed
All defects rectified, unless allowed to be INOP
CO monitoring is working and valid ( can never be INOP )
What documents must be carried in the plane?
- Airworthiness Certificate
- Flight Manual
NZ Reg’d
* tech log
* Weight and balance info ( CAA 2173)
* Aircraft Radio Equipment ( CAA 2129)
Foriegn
* certificate of registration
* Written evidence of compliance with noise and engine emissions
What is the minimum inspections of the aircraft?
100 hours or 12 months ( which ever is sooner )
If the manufacture does not require this, then an appropriate inspection must still be carried out.
Often must the radio be inspected?
Every 24 months ( all frequencies tested )
How often must the Static Pressure, altimeter instruments and automatic pressure system be inspected?
- Every 24 months
- If the static pressure system is opened ( except via drain or alternate air )
- Installaiton of an automatic pressure system

How often must the SSR be inspected?
Preceding 24 months
How often must the ELT be inspected?
- Preceding 12 months or 100 hours
- OR under the manufacturers gudiance of 24 months
- Has the battery replaced
How often must the compass be inspected?
Preceding 24 months OR
Any out of phase event that may cause problems
How often must the First aid kit be inspected?
Preceeding 12 months OR
Reported use.
How often must the Fire exingishuer be inspected?
Preceeding 12 months
How often must the weight and balance be checked?
Any changes made to the aircraft that may affect W&B
Any time the operator suspects it is not correct
If more than 4 seats - in the preceeding 10 years
How often must are review of airworthiness be perfomed?
Preceeding 365 days UNLESS special Category - then 730 days
OR if the airwothiness cert was issued in the preceding 365 days.
When can aircraft be flown if the Airworthiness cert has expired?
For purposes of planned Maintence 36 days
OR Sole purpose is to enable the review of airworthiness
What aircraft are maintenace records required for?
And must include what information
All aircraft except microlights
Maintence records must include description of any accident, must be descriptive.
Maintenace record can be plain language or coded - must be retrivable and understandable.
What information is required in a technical log?
- Operator Name
- Reg and type/ Model
- Name of the maintenace program
- A statement on the maintence status
- next scheduled inspection - date and hours
- Other maintenance required before next schedule data
- daily hours flown
- total time in service
- Daily cycles and total cycles ( if applicable )
- defects found and release to service by LAME
- details of any deferred rectification
