Airspace, Aerodromes and Heliports Flashcards
Where is the rounding on the ATS for Altimeter?
What should the altimeter be set too?
(
ATS will round down.
Altimeter should be set to that given by ATS
Above FL150 - 1013.2
Below 13,000 - QNH zone or Aerodrome
Between - as advised by ATC
What should be that altimeter be set to when ascending and decending
- Ascending through 13,000ft - 1013.2
- Descending though FL150 - QNH or Area
What should the Altimeter be set to for Class C and D and G
Class C and D
* ATS setting.
Class G - Zone Area, except
* Landing/Takeoff/in the circuit
* Intermediate and final approach for IFR
If there is no QNH available:
* Must be set before depature.
* Request from ATS - must be set from ATS before IMC
What are the rules for Tracks
In the AIP 4
* NOSE - Above 3,000ft
VFR never to be above 13,000ft.
What is required in a Transponder Mandatory Zone?
Transponder
* Mode 3/A
* Mode S
*
Must be set to:
* ATS provided number
* 1200 - Planes
* 1400 - in GAA area
Can not be in Mode S until Serial number has been provided by register
What is the rule for Aircraft in formation and transponders
Only 1 aircraft requires transponder on.
What is a CTR vs CTA
CTR - touches the ground
CTA - bottom must be at least 700 ft above ground and 500ft below IFR flight paths
CTA can not exceed FL660
GAA - rules
GAA - does not require NOSE to be applied above 3,000ft
Day - means daylight
ATC - means ATC permission is required to activate it.
When do you need to report re: Visual Reporting Points
Whenever you pass one
GAA entry and exit ( ATC )
Person requesting access must ensure that ATC has the phone number person requesting access
Others must confirm that the GAA is active
Rules for Restricted and Dangerous Area
Restricted
* Request permission from the authorising body
Follow directions
Dangerous
* Can enter as long as it does not put the flight safety at risk
Low Flying Zones - Rules
- Daylight only
- Dual Instruction
- pilots not in the training organisation must get a briefing
- Broadcast entry , POB, lenght of stay. Broadcast ext
- SFC to 5,000 ft
*
Rules for MBZ
Uncontrolled Airspace
Broadcast on entry, exit, joining circuit, prior to entering runway, at regular intervals
Landing lights and anti-collision lights must be on
Rules for VMZ
Volcanic Zones
* day only
* No IMC
* Can not affect safety of flight
*
Rules for CFZ
- Transmit position, altitude and intentions at reporting points or entry.
- Other times for aircraft saftey
Use of Aerodrome rules
Can not use a place as an aerodrome unless it is suitable
Can not operate an aircraft at an aeromdrome unless:
* comply with limitations
* The runway has appropriate lighting for the aircraft and activated at night for night landing/take-off
* Manuerver clear of any area that is deemed to not be suitable
* Runway is clear of obstacles/people during landing and take off
Circuit Rules
May not operate in the circuit unless aircraft can be kept
* Clear of obstacles
* clear of other aircraft including those on IFR approaches/departures
how is a runway designated?
Magnetic from the approach direction
To the nearest 10 degrees
Defination of Manuorvering area?
Area of aerodrome used for take-off and landing and for surface movement.
Excluding the aera for loading/unloading cargo/passengers or maintenace.
Apron
Area for unloading/loading, fuelling maintance, parking
REDL
(Runway Edge Lighting)
White for usuable portion of the runway
RTHL
Runway Threshold Lighting
This is green visible from Approach direction
REL
Runway End lighting
Red - at the end of the runway.
Visible from run way direction
Displaced Threshold lighting
The Runway Edge lighting will be Red from approach and white from the runway
Runway Center lighting
RCLL
- White from threshold
- Red White 914m - 300m from end
- Red - 300m from end
Runway Lead in Lighting
RLLS
normally fixed or flashing red lights
Sometimes flashing white lights
What are the transponder codes for VFR Flights?
1200
1400 ( GAA Area )
2200 ( circuit at controlled aerodrome )
Circiling Guidance Light
CGL
Installed to provide either:
Positive tracking in terrin OR
Clear indication of the landing threshold from latter downwind
A system of high intensity white lights
Two lights are located on the outboard of the threshold
