Q

Whats the CASO4 based off?

A

Based off the AUW and is a Pchart determining T/O and LDR taking into account:

  • Density altitude of aerodrome used
  • correction for runway surface and slope
  • correction for surface wind.

Q

Whats the group rating system? And how does it work?

A

A simple method for aircraft weighing 2270kg or less to determine if the runway length is fine for their aircraft.

Does the shoe fit? Every runway is given a group rating and aircraft are given one too. Any runway that has a group rating equal or greater then the aircraft group rating you can land on .

Q

What’s a wet and contaminated runway and how do you correct it for landing distance?

A

Wet - runway with sufficient moisture on surface to cause it to appear reflective but without significant standing water.

Contaminated - more then 25% of the runway SA within required length and width is covered by water, slush or snow more then 3mm in depth or ice anywhere.

Correction LDA is 115% of LDR calculated for dry runway. (ATO)

Group rating system ensure at least one group rating greater.
