Air Systems - Environmental & Pneumatics Flashcards

1
Q

PACKs go to high flow for three reasons-

When is it inhibited?

A

Single PACK ops
Recirc Fans off
APU is only source of air

**High flow is inhibited for Single Engine ops

Q

If you turn the Recir fans off inflight to force PACKs into high flow what caution should you observe with the 757?

A

Do not turn of the Left fan because it will cause the overboard exhaust fan to latch open, PACK will compensate by going to high flow. Problem is when you turn fan back on, PACK goes to low flow, rev stays open and you may not be able to maintain pressurization

Q

Button on PACK light-

If both ‘INOP” and “PACK OFF” lights are on read the first letter and think-

A
  • Internal PACK Overheat

- puts you in standby mode and you willed to use the dial that is below the button

Q

The INOP/PACK OFF light in the middle of the panel
What would INOP represent?
What would PACK represent?

A
  • A problem on the “out” side of of the PACK
  • A problem on the “input” side of the PACK

**Just look at the button, top vs bottom

Q

757 Equipment Cooling

Overboard exhaust logic is designed to protect the Mix manifold because

A

Air from the equipment cooling flows back to the mix manifold so if there was smoke in the E+E it would end up flowing to the cabin

Q

757 Equipment Cooling

What does the overheat light look at?

A

Air Flow

17
Q

757 Equipment Cooling

If you lose the left recirc fan the left PACK-

A

Goes to High Flow to make up for loss of the fan and push air through the system

18
Q

757 Equipment Cooling has two fans on the supply side

What happens when you press the ALTN/OVHT button

A

You are switching to the other fan. If both fans die in an HMG airplane the “ER” fan will activate

19
Q

757 Equipment Cooling-

If smoke is detected on the exhaust side but not he supply side the system assumes__ and does__

A
  • Smoke is in the E+E

- Supply fan keeps running, overboard exhaust valve latches open

20
Q

757 Equipment Cooling-

If smoke is detected on the supply side the system-

A

Both fans shut off and overboard exhaust valve latches open

21
Q
767 Equipment Cooling-
Which fan(s) run on the ground
A

Both

If it’s above 45° air is exhausted overboard. If it’s below 45° it uses the skin heat exchanger

22
Q

767 Equipment Cooling-

Are the E+E and Mix manifold connected?

A

Not at all

23
Q

767 Equipment Cooling- Which fans normally run inflight?

A

Only the Exhaust Fan

24
Q

767 Equipment Cooling- When would the supply fan run?

A

If you select STBY, you resend the signal to the valves and switch fans

25
Q

767 Equipment Cooling-

Which side is Overheat and Smoke detected on?

A

Overheat- supply side

Smoke- Exhaust side

26
Q

767 Equipment Cooling-

Where is the intake vent for the system located?

A

Behind and left of the Captain

27
Q

767 Equipment Cooling-

What happens when fuel is being dumped?

A

System goes into smoke configuration

28
Q

What position should the Bulk Cargo switch be in?

A

“Normal”

29
Q

What happens if a Zone Temp control is positioned to off?

A

Compartment ions light illuminates
