Aerobic And Anaerobic Flashcards
What is the formula for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose -> energy+lactic acid
What is the formula for aerobic respiration?
Glucose+oxygen -> energy+Carbon dioxide+water
What is aerobic respiration?
Using oxygen as the main fuel source, mainly for endurance activities, which rely predominantly on the aerobic system to produce energy
What is anaerobic respiration?
Not requiring oxygen to produce energy, for a short duration, usually requiring power
What are the functions of blood during aerobic respiration?
Transport oxygen and glucose to the working muscles
Remove waste products
Control the bodies temperature by moving the blood closer to the skin
What are the functions of blood during anaerobic respiration?
Transports glucose to the working muscles
Removes waste product (lactic acid) to prevent muscle cramps
Regulate body temperature
What is oxygen debt and how does it occur?
The period of time when the body has to elevate breathing rate and depth after an exercise has finished
It occurs when the body still has to remove any by-products from the blood (carbon dioxide) and still has to convert lactic acid back to glycogen
What is produced during exercise that could be harmful?
Carbon dioxide and lactic acid
What does the lungs do to recover and why?
Increase the depth and frequency of breathing to remove remove carbon dioxide and intake more oxygen to break down lactic acid
How does the body control it’s temperature during recovery? (Exept blood)
Increases sweat
Besides breathing, how else can we remove waste products during recovery?
Produce urine and faeces
