Adverse reactions to Antipsychotics Flashcards
anticholinergic toxicity
no peristalsis, urinary retention, delirium, hallucinations, seizures, repetitive motor movements
neuroleptic malignant syndrome
excessive dopamine receptor blocking
NMS symptoms
severe muscle rigidity, absent speech, low responsiveness, delirium, coma, organ failure
severe neutropenia
low WBC causing bad infections
prolonged QT interval
delay of ventricular repolarization causes tachy, fainting, death
liver impairment
can be from clozapine causing jaundice, edema, ascites, abdominal pain, dark urine
metabolic syndrome
wt gain, high glucose, insulin resistance with high risk of diabetes, cancer, heart disease
acute dystonia (EPS)
sudden muscle contractions (life threatening if in neck)
akathisia (EPS)
motor restless causing inability to stay still
pseudoparkinsonism (EPS)
temporary group of symptoms resembling parkinsons
tardive dyskinesia
involuntary rhythmic movements
ACH effects
side effects from anticholinergics
