What are the Clinical Uses of Corticosteroids?
A
1 - Replacement therapy: Oral cortisone, cortisol, or prednisone (with fludrocortison PRN) to treat adrenal insufficiency
2 - Short term very high dose parenteral steroids: Medical emergencies such as status asthmatics, anaphylaxis, acute adrenal insufficiency, shock, cerebral edema
3 - Long term high dose oral therapy: For diseases such as chronic active hepatitis, p pemphigus vulgarism, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, specific cancers
4 - Long term low dose oral therapy: As adjuvants to other drugs for chronic disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus
5 - Short term oral therapy: Treat allergic disorders
