-+ impairing symptoms pervasive across multiple settings
Causes of ADHD?
- Multifactorial
- Genetic and environment
- Brain mapping shows those with ADHD tend to have underactive function within frontal lobe
- XSively efficient dopamine removal system in ADHD
Diagnostic criteria in children for ADHD?
- 6 or more symptoms of inattentiveness and/or 6 or more symptoms of HA and impulsiveness
- Present before age 5 years
- Reported by parents, school and seen in clinic
- Symptoms get in way of day to day
- Criteria for adults is different
General management of ADHD?
Psychosocial treatment for all severities
Pharmacological for mod-severe
Psychosocial treatment for ADHD?
- Parent training (New forest)
- Social skills training
- Behavioural classroom management strategies
- Specific educational interventions
Pharmacological treatment for mod-severe ADHD?
1st: Stimulants (methylphenidate, dexamfetamine, lisdexamfetamine)
2nd: SNRI: atomoxetine
3rd: Alpha agonist (clonidine, guanfacine)
4th: ADs, anti-psychs: imipramine, risperidone
