What is BN?
A
Recurrent binge eating followed by compensatory behaviours to avoid weight gain, at least once a week for 3 months

Diagnostic criteria for BN?
A
- Persistent preoccupation with eating
- Irresistible craving for food
- Binges
- Attempts to counter the effects of binges
- Morbid fear of fatness

Presnetation of BN?
A
Recurrent episodes f binge-eating characterised by:
- Eating in discrete period of time a larger than usual amount of food
- Lack of control during episode
- Recurrent inappropriate compensatory mechanisms to prevent weight gain
- Self worth based on shape

Clinical features of BN?
A
- Co-morbid depression
- Alcohol and substance misuse
- Impulsive ehaviours
- Dental caries
- May be normal weight
- Russel’s sign
- Parotid hypertrophy
- U&Es abnormal (hypokalaemia, alkalosis)
- Irregular periods

Q
Management?
A
Individual or group CBT
High dose fluoxetine can help reduce food cravings (up to 60mh a day)
-In patient ward not recommended unless at high risk
