Adenosine Flashcards
1
Q
Pharmacology & Actions
A
- slows conduction through the AV node
- most cases of PSVT involve AV node reentry. Adenosine interrupts AV nodal circuit and stops tachycardia - restoring normal sinus rhythm
2
Q
Indications
A
To convert hemodynamically stable narrow complex tachycardia with pulse
3
Q
Absolute Contraindications
A
- 2nd or 3rd degree Heart blocks
- poison or drug induced tachycardia
- known hypersensitivity
- allergy
4
Q
Precautions and Side Effects
A
- can cause brief asystole, dizziness, facial flushing, headache, nausea and transient shortness of breath
- IV/IO can produce broncospasm in asthmatics
- if patient becomes hemodynamically unstable, cardioversion should occur
5
Q
Administration

- IV/IO
- Onset 20-30sec
- Peak 20-30sec
- Duration 30sec
- Dose 6mg 1st dose 12mg 2nd
