Decreases conduction of the electrical impulse through the AV node and interrupts AV reentry pathway
What is the description of Adenosine?
Naturally occurring nucleoside that slows AV node conduction through the AV node
What is the indications for Adenosine? (3)
- Conversion of narrow complex tachycardia
- PSVT refractory to vagal maneuvers (prior to cardioversion)
- Can be used as a diagnostic agent to determine whether the condition is wide or narrow complex tachycardia
What are the contraindications for Adenosine? (6)
- A-fib
- Torsade de pointes
- 2nd or 3rd degree heart block
- sick sinus syndrome
- hypersensitivity
- asthma
