Additional pelvis Flashcards
what is the most common shape of female pelvis
50% are gynecoid
Round inlet!
What is a straddle injury
fracture of all four pubic rami
- anterior to posterior pressure on pelvis
- car crash without seatbelt
fracture of acetabulum
bilaterally can happen from jumping off a builiding (commonly assumed a suicide attempt)
if posteriorly, happens frequently tall males in car crash because force applied to femur posteriorly and blows through bone
Open book fracture
fracture of the pelvis
high mortality rate due to soft tissue damage and exsanguination (bleeding out) associated with internal and external iliac aa. or retroperitoneal structures
disrupts pubic symphysis
vesicorectal pouch
this is structure in males between the bladder and rectum
rectouterine pouch
in females called this because uterus
pouch between rectum and uterus
vesicouterine pouch
between bladder and uterus
trace the typical arterial supply to the prostate beginning with abdominal aorta
abdominal aorta
common iliac a
internal iliac a
inferior vesical a
trace the venous drainage of the prostate ending with inferior vena cava
vesical venous plexus prostatic venous plexus internal pudendal vein inferior vesical v superior vesical v internal iliac v common iliac v inferior vena cava
what are the nerve roots of pudendal nerve
S2, 3, 4 keep the poo off the floor
functions to innervate the anal sphincters and urethral sphincters
which part of the internal iliac artery gives rise to the inferior gluteal artery versus the superior
inferior gluteal artery= from the internal iliac artery anterior division
(so does the uterine artery and internal pudendal artery and obturator artery)
superior gluteal artery arises from the posterior division of the internal iliac artery (so does medial umbilical ligament= oblitereated umbilical artery)
describe the sympathetic nervous supply to prostate
T12-L1 origin
postganglionic fibers are vasomotor- control teh smooth muscle of the prostatic urethral sphincter
- that prevents ejaculate from entering the urinary bladder
describe the parasympathetic innervation of the prostate
origin is S2-4
parasympathetic postganglionic innervate smooth muscle of the prostatic capsule
What are common causes of injury t pelvic nerves
- childbirth- child head push on nerves in sacral plexus
- obturator nerve - vulnerable in surgery like lymph node removal
- stretching of nerve to levator ani during vaginal birth = urinary / fecal incontinence
