Adding, Subtracting, and Multiplying Polynomials (1.7.2) Flashcards
1
Q
Adding Polynomials
A
Adding Polynomials means that you combine all like terms.
2
Q
Like terms
A
Like terms are either those which have the same variables to the same degree, or the constants.
3
Q
Subtracting polynomials
A
Subtracting polynomials is the same as adding except that the negative sign preceding the second polynomial changes every sign in that polynomial before you combine like terms.
4
Q
FOIL:
A
FOIL: A technique for multiplying binomials that is based on the distributive property.
• F – multiply the first terms in each binomial.
• O – multiply the outer terms in each binomial.
• I – multiply the inner terms in each binomial.
• L – multiply the last terms in each binomial.
