Addiction Flashcards
What is addiciton?
Compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance characterised by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal.
What is tolerance?
The capacity of the body to endure or become less responsive to a substance or physiological insult especially with repeated use or exposure.
What is the mechanism of action go caffeine?
Blocks adenosine receptors in the CNS.
What is the mechanisms of action of Amphetamines?
Release of catecholamine in the CNS and high doses, blocks their reuptake.
How is amphetamine intoxication treated?
Neuroletic drugs.
What is the mechanism of action of alcohol?
Acts diffusely on most transistor systems. Increases specifically GABA-transmisson. Inhibits Ca2+ entry through voltage-gated channels. Inhibits NMDA-receptor function.
How is alcohol intoxication treated?
- Disulfiram
- Acomprosate
- Naltrexone
What is the mechanism of opiates?
Act via opiate receptors in the brain, δ-delta κ-kappa μ-mu ζ-zeta receptors.
How is opiate intoxication treated?
Acute detoxification: methadone, codeine, clonidine
Chronic substitution treatment: methadone.
How do u treat nicotine addiction?
- NRT
2. Bupropion
What is the mode of action go cannabis?
Via cannabinoid receptors, in the CNA CB1 receptors, PNA CB2 receptors.
Where are CB1 receptors found in the CNS?
Hippocampus/cortex, Cerebellum/substantia nigra, mesolimbic DA system.
