Acute Physiological Responses Flashcards
Define Homeostasis
the tendency towards a relatively stable equilibrium between interdependent elements, especially as maintained by physiological processes.
What are some examples of Homeostasis
Blood pressure, respiration, body temperature and blood sugar
What is a stressor?
Something that’ll cause an homeostatic imbalance.
What are examples of stressors?
Mechanical force Pressure Chemical Temperature Psychological
What are the responses to exercise as a stress?
Cardiac response Breathing response Vascular response Temperature response Sweating response Synovial viscosity
What happens if body temperature goes too high?
Tissue damage and organ failure can occur due to enzyme activity shutting down.
How does body temperature raise during exercise?
Through the increased amount of chemical reactions to produce ATP from glucose.
What are the two main sweat glands?
Eccrine and apocrine
