When does acute bronchitis occur?
A
When an URTI progresses down into the chest to cause a lower respiratory tract infection

What can complicate acute bronchitis?
A
Secondary bacterial infection with strep pneumoniae or Heamophilus

What is the general presentation of acute bronchitis?
A
Recent URTI, productive cough, no signs of systemic upset and clear chest

How long does an episode of acute bronchitis usually last?
A
Around 3 weeks

What is the general management of acute bronchitis?
A
Usually supportive and amoxicillin/doxycycline

When can antibiotics be given for acute bronchitis?
A
If the patient is over 65 or has other comorbidities such as COPD
