Acute Anterior Uveitis (AAU) Flashcards
1
Q
What is AAU?
A
= inflammation of the uveal tract, iris is affected the most
2
Q
What are the symptoms for AAU?
A
- Sudden onset of unilateral - pain, photophobia, lacrimation (watery eyes), redness, mild-mod reduced VA
3
Q
What are signs for classic AAU?
A
- Hyperaemia
- Aqueous cells + flares
- Pupil Miosis
- Low/Hip IOP (due to damage of cilliary body)
- Keratic Percipitates
- Iris bombe
4
Q
What are the signs for recurrent/severe AAU?
A
- Hypopyon (inflammatory cells in AC)
- Rubesosis Irides (vessel growth in iris due to hypoxia)
- Iris Nodules
- Iridocyclitis
5
Q
What are the three referral for AAU?
A
If severe pain, raised IOP, reduced vision = EMERGENCY to OP
If Mild-Mod AAU, mild pain, IOP OK = URGENT TO OP
If recurrent acute = Routine to GP
6
Q
What are the management and treatment for AAU?
A
Topical corticosteroid: to eliminate inflammation
Cyclopentolate: to reliver pain + prevent posterior synachiae (adhesion between of iris and lens)
Prostaglandin: to control IOPs
Systemic Steroid: to treat systemic associations
