Elderly, small brown/pink/red, dry, scaly/crusty lesion in sun-exposed sites.

What are the risk factors for actinic keratosis?
A
Fair skin and sun exposure

When should actinic keratosis be biopsied?
A
When the lesions are tender, ulcerated, or rapidly growing.

What is the histology of actinic keratosis?
A
Dysplasia, but no invasion through basement membrane.

What can actinic keratosis progress to and what is the risk of it occuring?
A
- Squamous cell carcinoma
2. 5% risk

How is actinic keratosis prevented?
A
Sun cream, sun avoidance.

What is the treatment for actinic keratosis?
A
- Fluorouracil cream - 2-3 week course
- Topical diclofenac
- Topical imiquimod
- Cryotherapy
