What is a phenix?
science of speech- how we use our bodies (e.g) water or wa’er.
What is phenetic?
when we describe what is going on (precisely), meaning you can hold vowels for a limited amount of time, like for (e.g) bath or ba-th, ( extending the length of the vowel).
What are consonants?
when you can’t hold the words. Like ‘t’, Tank is just tank
What is prosodic variation?
Pitch, tone. Articulation of one sound, sounds similar to the other. (hand bag, handbag)
What is syntax?
Another grammatical category, like nouns, adverbs, etc…
What is a lexis variable?
Regional, lexis, colloquial slang
What is multiple negotiation?
The more general term referring to the occurrence of more than one negative in a clause. For (e.g), I won’t (will not) bake no cake.
What’s a glottal stop?
Missing out ‘t’. (e.g) wa’er
What’s elision mean?
gonna, wanna
What is omission?
A part of a grammatical structure. For (e.g) ‘three month’- no ‘s’
What does multiethnolect mean?
When they use their language mixed with English, so they would mix the languages.
What is standard english?
The prestige dialect of the UK
What is RP?
The prestige accent of the UK
What does over prestige mean?
The power gained through using standard english and prestige forms (e.g) To fit in with friends, for group solidarity.
What are monophthongs?
